Feeling completely stuck
Have you ever been out hiking before and end up walking straight into a pile of thick mud? You know that feeling of trying to get out of it but you're just completely stuck? This is the feeling that depression and anxiety can give someone, the feeling of being completely stuck. There are many things that happen in each day. Many people would break down what happens in their day by large events, maybe work, going to dinner with a friend, etc. But people with anxiety and depression break down their day by thousands of tiny moments.
Each of those things tear us down in different ways. For instance, the huge task (at least to us) of finding clothes to wear, because that small thing seems like such a giant one. No outfit is right. They are all the wrong choices. Sometimes these moments that seem minor to others add up and we find ourselves in a place where we are completely stuck. We hit a wall emotionally and we feel incapable to do anything. This feeling of being stuck can often make us retract from others.
While being around people normally is fun and exciting, especially with those we love, when we are in this state of mind we don't feel equipped to be around others. Talking to others is overwhelming. Honestly, just being around them is overwhelming. We end up finding ourselves very distant from people. We are so completely stuck in our emotions that even the thought of being around others becomes too difficult.
We become incapable of thinking logically and move into a deep emotional thinking. Our hearts and minds become paralyzed and leave us feeling completely stuck.
