12 FREE summer family fun activities
It's officially summer and that means kids are on break from school! Woohoo! Now we ask the question, how do we keep them entertained all day? Kids are used to school schedules where they are constantly occupied.
Now that they are out of school, they become restless and often repeat the phrase "I'm bored". That dreaded phrase! I can hear my children whining this to me in my head. There are many activities you can do for money. Endless amounts! But for those who don't have endless amounts of money and want some free ideas, you've come to the right place!
Hopefully some of these ideas are things you've never thought of or things you haven't done in awhile, nonetheless, take some notes and keep those kids from that summer break boredom!
Library activities.
Call your local library and find out what they have going on this summer. They'll have special reading times, crafts, activities, and even events like magicians!
Splash pads.
There are some that cost money to get in, but plenty that don't! Look online for ones close by you. It's a great way to beat the heat!
Home Depot crafts.
Did you know that Home Depot has free craft projects for kids? All you have to do is go on their website and sign your kids up to reserve your spot.
Picnic at the park.
My girls love this! Bring food and drinks and maybe even try out a new park! Driving around neighborhoods is the best way to find the hidden gems.
Outdoor family movies.
Many cities will play family appropriate movies in the summer time. Bring some blankets and snacks and you're good to go!
VBS.
Vacation bible school if you haven't heard of it before. Check out some local churches and your kids will get a full week of fun crafts, singing, silly games, and more! They typically run for a few hours each morning.
Museum free days.
I just learned this recently! Museums have free days, just check out their calendar online for when yours has it.
Family 5Ks.
You can walk or run, whatever suits you and your kids best! There are ones just for fun and others that are to raise awareness for great causes like Compassion International's "Walk with Compassion" to help end poverty in the name of Jesus.
Family game night.
Get one of those games out of your cabinet and teach your kids how to have fun and how to be a good sport.
Family sleepover.
Okay, this one isn't for the faint of heart. Kids are a bit difficult when you need them to sleep and they're excited. But it'll be a memory to remember forever!
Random acts of kindness.
My girls also love this! Kids feel a sense of importance and a true joy. You can do something as simple as letting your kids open the door for someone who is unable to themselves. Spend the whole day finding joy from blessing others!
Lemonade stand.
What's better than your kids having fun and learning how to make money? Throw in some homemade treats for the opportunity to bring in more customers! And let's be honest, you and the kids can all sneak a little treat in between customers. Yummmm!
Happy summer venturing and making fun FREE memories with your kiddos this summer!!! May your children be happy, healthy, cooperative and free from the phrase "I'm bored".
