May You Be Filled With Hope
Many of us have lived through multiple wars. We have seen natural disasters destroy everything in their path. We have even woken up to see the twin towers fall rapidly and watched presidents come and go from the White House.
The times we are currently in is something we have not ever seen, nor something we thought we ever would see. I don't know about you, but at the beginning stages of Covid-19 I believed it to be completely blown out of proportion. Can you feel me on this? We laughed thinking it was just another minor illness. We made jokes about how those who were sick would be better from their minor coughs in a matter of days and then we'd be past it all. To be fair, we are a nation used to news outlets blowing everything out of proportion. This time just so happened to actually be a big deal.
Every human carries value
Now here we are, in a state of a full blown pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people are getting sick across the world. In the U.S. alone we are seeing thousands of people die, and unfortunately it seems we have a long road to recovery.
These people who have lost their lives are someone's friend, someone's significant other, someone's children and/or someone's parent. The people who have had to endure long and excruciating days in the hospital fighting for their lives, they are people. Can we just sit with that for a moment?..... Humans all around the world, no matter their race, gender, orientation, or age, carries value. Each human that we lose to this virus should carry a weight for us as human beings. Everyday we should be trying to be a part of the solution instead of being a part of the problem.
Economic downfall
Not only do we see the ramifications through illness, but also through our economy and the uncertainty of job security. Our minds immediately question if we will be able to continue to pay our mortgage's, other various bills, or even feed our children? It's terrifying to even think that this could very well be ours or others' reality sooner than later.
With the unstable economy, we are seeing stores shut down for an extended period of time. It is now causing people to over prepare for a possible apocalypse type situation. People are ravaging through grocery stores grabbing anything they can get their hands on. They are stock piling necessities they'd need for their whole lives.
The hope amongst the struggle
While we are in such uncertain times having never seen anything like this before, we are in luck, because we have a hope much greater than all of these issues combined.
No matter the power of this illness, we have access to the most powerful one. Even when our hearts are completely overwhelmed with anxiety over the unknowns, we have someone who is willing to listen to our fears and calm our hearts. Through the fear of death, we have someone who has overcome that!
The length or quality of life isn't guaranteed, but we are loved unconditionally with a perfect kind of love. Knowing that we have a God who is above all of this is exactly the kind of hope we need as a nation. If you are reading this right now, I am praying for your heart. I am praying that your heart accepts God's perfect love, and that he fills your heart with peace and hope.
