DIY Front Door Mat
We bought a house! If you don't know me personally, we have moved a lot. Since my husband and I got married 6 1/2 years ago, we've moved 7 times. I've pretty much become an expert at moving. I'm thrilled that my husband and I both finally feel at home in Colorado. We are ready to settle, plant our roots and have our girls create beautiful memories in this new house together. Despite not moving into the house for another few weeks, I'm already planning out every single thing I want to make for the house.
Adults often get this urge to want to create our own perfect little spaces. A place that when we have people over says “this is me“. I thought to myself ‘what would be the perfect first DIY project?” and this is it. A front porch mat to help create a cozy little entryway. I see so many front porch mats, but the problem is that I really don’t like them. They are either too specific for the holidays, too bold, or too boring. Whenever I don't like something, that's my cue to make my own.
So here we are, with my new, perfect for me front door mat. Create your own saying, your own artwork, but here’s how to create your own personal mat. Have fun customizing this to make it your own!
Supplies:
18in x 30in Vinyl door mat
Fine tip paint brush
Black crayon
2ft x 3ft Checkered waterproof mat
Steps:
Grab your door mat and crayon.
Trace lightly what you want it to say and where. (pro tip: lay down rulers or books to make sure your words stay straight) Don't worry if you need to retrace, a baby wipe or wet towel will easily remove the crayon later.
Once you have what you want in the right place, you'll use your acrylic paint and paint brush to go over the crayon.
After it's done drying, take your wet towel or baby wipe and gently scrub off crayon that needs to come off.
Grab your paint sealer and spray over the top to keep paint from coming off.
Assemble all your pieces together on the porch.
Enjoy!
xoxo
