Decorating for Spring on a Budget

Spring is officially here! No more winter blues. No more staying inside for weeks on end. We’ve got extra sunshine, warmth, rain, and beauty blooming. This is one of my favorite seasons (after summer), because it comes are a very cold, gloomy, snowy season. At least for the majority of us. I am excited for me and my family to be able to get out and start enjoying the outdoors together. Staying up later because there’s more sunshine.

With Spring comes the itch to redecorate the house into more colors and fun. The cold winter decor needs to feel rejuvenated. Many bloggers and influencers have the most beautiful homes, and the have the money to help do all of those beautiful things. As much as I’d love an unlimited budget going to the stores and picking out anything my heart desires, I simply cannot. If you’re here I assume you might feel the same.

Let me show you how to help make your home feel special this new season with minimal effort and funds.

Florals

Finding Spring florals is the quickest and easiest way to brighten things up. You can find tons of fake florals as thrift stores. They have bouquets already made or single stems and you can use as many as you’d like. I find the places I have greenery and swap for some brighter colors or Spring specific flowers.

If thrifting isn’t your thing, try looking at Hobby Lobby or Michaels when they have huge deals. If you’re looking to stay on budget, just avoid things at full cost at those stores.

With fake florals, I always love to add fresh flowers as well. Flowers often are expensive though, so here are a few tips to finding cheap florals. If you have a Trader Joe’s, that is one of the best and cheapest options. I can find a whole set of flowers for under $10, sometimes only a few dollars. They have a huge, fresh and beautiful section to choose from. Another great place to look is a grocery store that has a clearance section. If you haven’t seen them, just ask their florist and they’ll let you know if they have that. Many do. My go to is King Soopers, but that isn’t a store everyone has, so just check around. I have been able to get a whole bouquet for $5.

Once you find fresh florals, grab a good vase and put them by the window to see them thrive.

Linens and Pillows

Blankets, pillows, towels, you name it and they have some really cute options. Instead of those cold winter colors, grab your bright and colorful things and swap them out.

To keep things cheap, I often just have one or two storage bins for each season of things that I can reuse. Pillows and blanket are insanely expensive, so if you’re able to find something with great quality, keep it for the following year. I love shopping at target’s end of season clearance to grab my favorite things like pillows and blankets that are nearly half off. I may not be able to use this year, but the following I typically forget and I am excited when I open up my bin with brand new items.

You will also be able to find some cute and cheap items like hand towels or blankets at the thrift store that are so easy to just toss in the laundry. I even sprinkle about a quarter cup of baking soda to help it smell fresh! Baking soda is even great for all your kids things.

Scents

What tops off a home better than a beautiful smell? There are a couple different options that are my go to’s. I love a good candle. For some reason I love having different candles for every season, with scents that bring me joy.

Many people aren’t huge fans of burning candles though, so if you’re wanna to go a more natural route, try essential oils in a diffuser. I have mine running almost every single day. It makes the house smell super fresh. Grab one with lavender, rose, cherry blossom, peony, or really any flowers that bloom during the spring.

Another great way is simply put a pot on the stove with fresh ingredients around the kitchen (or garden if it’s ready). These are able to be left on safely for about 2-3 hours while someone is home. Fill it with water, and start adding some things that would go great together. If your garden is up and running with full blooms, this is a great one. Add a few stems of rosemary, a sprig of mint, a few rose buds, and some chamomile flowers. There’s no exact measurements, add more of what you love.

If you don’t have your garden up and running yet, that’s okay. Grab some citrus from the fridge. Slice up a grapefruit, lemons, a sprig or two of thyme, a splash of vanilla, and top with water. There are so many other options, but if you don’t see something you would enjoy, just experiment with your own.

Trinkets

During the winter we typically have pinecones, bears, or whatever winter items displayed around. This is the time to swap those out. You can find many cute and affordable trinkets from the thrift store or even in the dollar section at target. Whether they be little bunnies, ceramic flowers, strawberries, or honey bees, find what brings you joy.

If you find a piece that you love the bones of, but maybe don’t enjoy the color, fix it. Grab some paint and change it. When you do this more often, you’ll begin keeping your favorite paint colors and stain colors around for moments like this.

Enjoy the Journey

As you decorate your home for the very first time or for the hundredth time, let it bring you joy. If you aren’t able to fix it all within one days time, give yourself grace. I believe that decorating is a journey. We are constantly changing directions with what we love and what we don’t love, going fast at times and slow at others. It’s okay to do what works best for you and not everyone else. If you love what you have done with your place, that’s all that matters.

Let everything that you bring into your home bring you joy!

xoxo,

Jillian
