What's Your Word For the Year?

As I reflect on this past year of blogging, my monumental first year of blogging, I can't help but become reflective. I think about what worked and what didn't work, so that I have the ability to restructure and move forward doing my best to create an amazing blog.

With that in mind, I decided to focus on one word. What is the word that defines me as a blogger?

Encouraging.

Have you ever thought through what one word best describes you? What one word encompasses your gifts and talents? If not, you should! It allows you the freedom from having to be perfect at everything, and also allows who you really are to shine! If you can't pinpoint what word best defines you, ask someone who knows you well.

As for me, I know my biggest strength is encouragement, because that is what flows out of me naturally, never having to force it.  This past year I was excited to start my blog, writing to express the many thoughts I have in my head. As well as being almost a sort of therapy as I work through my mental health.

As I first began to write, I was all over the place. I didn't exactly know what direction to take. I didn't know if I should be serious or funny, be the crafty mom or even the one who shares all the cleaning hacks....okay, so I don't even like cleaning, so that was obviously out! I just wrote, getting it all out, hoping that I would eventually figure out who I really was as a writer in the process.  When others would ask me at the beginning "what type of blog" do you have?

Honestly, I would never know how to respond. I ended up often replying "well, it is kind of a mixture of everything". Basically confusing the heck out of anyone who would have possibly wanted to go check it out. Now I can confidently say that I am a mommy blogger who loves encouraging others. Making others feel like they aren't in this crazy life alone.  I am grateful for this past year. I am grateful for the blogs that got a lot of attention, and I am also grateful for my not so great blogs that didn't get more than a handful of readers.

It is because of all those highs and lows that I better understand who I am as a writer. Time and experience are essential in figuring out what we are good at in life. We cannot simply expect things to change overnight. If you want to grow you have to allow yourself to fail at times and allow yourself to succeed at others.

As you move forward, it is key to identify your strengths and weaknesses.  In this next chapter of our lives, let's begin to focus on our one word! Let us strive to be our best, work our hardest, and lean into who we were created to be!

And for all of my readers, both new and those who have been with me since the beginning, thank you!!! Your kind words and encouragement have meant the world to me!

 Much love,  Ask the Instamom
