Thank You, Teachers
As parents everywhere send their kids into school this week with hand picked flowers, homemade treats, hand written letters, dressed up as their teacher, and other various things for teachers appreciation week, I realized this just isn't enough appreciation for all teachers do! If you're a teacher, you deserve all the love and thanks parents can give.
When our children reach the age when they're ready to go off to school, us parents immediately go into a sad and fearful mode as we send them into the hands of others. All the unknowns of how our children will cope and handle life without us is just tough on us. Whether you're a regular grade teacher, gym teacher, music teacher, art teacher, special education teacher, librarian, or administrator, you are all doing so much to provide for our children. Though we are handing our children to you teachers to provide knowledge, what you do is well beyond that.
I sent my daughter to school one day where her emotions had gotten the best of her. (A trait she inherited from me.) She pleaded with me to let her go home, but I knew in my heart she needed to push through and be at school. As her teacher noticed her struggling, she embraced my daughter with a massive hug. She gave her some one on one attention and was able to calm her down with an abundance of love. She continued that day to make sure my baby girl was okay, letting her each lunch with a friend in the classroom, and rescheduling a meeting she originally made, to prioritize my daughter. What happened with my daughter and her teacher is just one of multiple stories of what teachers do!
Their job is to teach, but it's not in their description to care for their students like their own children. Teachers really don't get into this job for the hope of a large income, rather because they have big hearts and want to love and serve kids well. Teachers, you have no idea how much you mean to all of us parents. Sending our kids into the care of others can be very difficult for us. I mean, we aren't really great at letting go. However, you make us feel comfortable in knowing our kids will be okay. You do your best to keep them safe, help them feel secure in themselves both socially and educationally, teach them how to treat others with respect and to be inclusive. You are there when they are struggling to see what is really going on behind the bad grades or bad behavior, rather than letting them slip through the cracks and fail. You have and will do everything in your power to see them succeed.
From us parents, we are grateful for you! A week full of little trinkets and gestures just doesn't scratch the surface of our appreciation.
For every moment you are staying late at school to help a student rather than bolting quickly after the school bell rings, we see you.
For every time you pay attention on the playground or in the classroom and stop bullying from continuing to happen, we see you.
For every heart felt encouragement to our children that they can do better and you believe in them, we see you.
For every moment you are making our children understand that school can be fun, we see you.
And for every moment you are not seen but have made a huge impact in every single one of your students' lives, we are thankful for you!
May you be blessed as you bless our kids with your wisdom, your kindness, your sacrifices, and your selfless way of life.
Thank you to all you superhero teachers!!!
